Message from Head of School

Thank you for all your support!

It has been an exciting half-term, and the children have truly enjoyed coming to school. They loved working with their teachers and friends, making wonderful memories along the way.

Children have had educational visits, welcomed outside visitors and engaged in exciting teaching hooks to enhance their learning experience even further.

There are many more exciting things planned for Spring 2, and we can't wait to share them with you!

We hope you have a restful half-term break—stay safe and enjoy yourselves!

Half-term Break

School will finish at the normal time on Friday 14th February for the half-term break. School will re-open for children on Monday 24th February.

Attendance Focus

Punctuality

Attendance and Punctuality Matters!

Unfortunately, we are seeing quite a number of children arriving late for school. Arriving on time for school is important— late arrivals can be disruptive for the class and can be embarrassing for the child.

We would appreciate your support in ensuring your child arrives at school by 8:45 am. This enables them to be ready for their learning, as well as establish great punctuality habits for life.

School Uniform

We would like to remind all parents/carers about the expected school uniform as some children are not wearing the expected items. We would like to remind you that the correct uniform should be:

● Red sweatshirt, jumper or cardigan

● Grey/black trousers, shorts, skirts or dresses

● White polo shirts, white shirts or blouses

● Red and white striped or checked summer dresses

● Black school shoes

Jewellery

Children are allowed to wear small stud earrings and watches (not smart watches) but no other jewellery.

PE

For P.E. days, our pupils should wear a plain white t-shirt, plain black shorts/joggers and a black sweatshirt. They should not be wearing branded items.

Visits and Experiences

Year 6
Bollywood meets the Bard!!

The Shakespeare Birthplace Trust visited Year 6 to show the impact that Shakespeare has had on countries around the world-including India. The pupils learnt about the famous works of Shakespeare -such as Macbeth and Romeo and Juliet-inspiring Bollywood movie-makers.

Well, Year 6 were lucky enough to see inside a special van painted by world-famous truck artist Haider Ali, who paints trucks such as the one above. It took him over 3months to complete the van below, but the end result is phenomenal!

It was time to make our own Bollywood truck art. To do this, the pupils used many skills.

Year 5

ThinkTank

As part of our science unit looking at space and the planets, we visited the ThinkTank Birmingham Science Museum. We even did a scavenger hunt to discover new and fascinating facts!

AVFC 150 year celebration

Our children were fortunate enough to have been invited to the stadium to take part in a range of activities to celebrate the 150th birthday of AVFC, looking at the history of the club, football and the local area. This linked with our current local history study and helped children to gather more knowledge.

This also included a stadium tour, where children got to see behind the scenes of the club! We even got to see the Premier League trophy!

Year 4

Visit to Birmingham’s Thinktank

Year 4 visited the Think Tank to learn about the human body and the digestive system.

We took part in a workshop where we explored and discussed different parts of our bodies.  We learnt about a healthy, balanced diet and organised different items of food into 5 key groups made up of carbohydrates, protein, milk and dairy products, fruit and vegetables and sugar and fats.

In the afternoon, we discovered all the other different areas of the science museum – it was great fun!

Year 4 children also visited the Jethavana Buddhist Vihara as a part of their religious education curriculum. The visit helped to develop their understanding of the world's religions, traditions, practices and beliefs.

Year 3

Stone Age Enrichment Day

Year 3 journeyed into the past for a special enrichment day where they learnt all about the Stone Age. Many fun activities were explored, including cave painting, den building and crafting bone necklaces.

Comic Relief Day Fundraiser

We will be raising money for Comic relief on Friday 21st March - children can wear their own clothes and bring in a £1 donation for this great charity. They are welcome to wear spotty clothes if they have any!

Ramadan Mubarak

We would like to express our warmest greetings to all our families celebrating the holy month of Ramadan.

Letters will be sent out in spring 2 regarding children fasting during the school day.
