Dear Parents and Carers,

As we approach the end of a fantastic school year, I would like to wish you all a safe, restful, and enjoyable summer break! We have loved seeing our reception and Year 6 children graduate – we are incredibly proud of ALL our students!

I would like to take the opportunity to wish our Year 6 pupils all the very best for their future; they will be greatly missed!

_________________________________________________________________________________

We are already looking forward to welcoming our pupils back in September, and we want to ensure everyone gets off to the best start. Please be aware of the following important details:

Staff training days (School closed to all children):

Tuesday 1st September

Wednesday 2nd September

Thursday 3rd September

Friday 4th September

  • Return Date for Y1–Y6 pupils: Monday 7th September

(Nursery/ Reception children will be given individual start dates)

  • Classroom doors open: 8.45 a.m.
  • Punctuality: Arriving on time is essential. Children should be in their classrooms no later than 8.55 a.m. as this is when the school day begins. Children participate in additional reading and book exchanges, and other valuable activities.
  • Expectations: We expect 100% attendance from the very first day. Being in school ensures that children don't miss out on new routines and vital learning time.

Good attendance remains a top priority at Yew Tree Community School, and building strong habits starts on day one!

Thank you for your continued partnership. We look forward to seeing all our students rested, prepared, and ready for a successful term!

Mrs Adams

Head of School

Dates for your diary: Parent's evening (Autumn Term)

Parent's evening will be held on the following date:

Thursday 5th November: 4-7pm

We will let you know when appointments are available to book.

Welcome back parties: Monday 7th September

We can't wait to see all our children on the first day back! We will be having afternoon parties for Y1–6 to celebrate the start of the new school year! Children can wear their party clothes (sensible footwear please). They can bring in packaged food (vegetarian) which must be in date and contain no nuts. Please do not bring in drinks.

As nursery and reception children do not all start on the same day, we will be in touch about their party day.

Animal Fun Day - Friday 11th September

Mobile Phones and Smart Watches in School

From September 2026, the Department for Education's statutory guidance, Mobile phones in schools, requires schools to have a policy that prohibits the use of mobile phones throughout the school day. The guidance supports schools in providing a calm, safe and focused learning environment.

In line with this guidance, pupils should not bring mobile phones or smartwatches into school.

The only exception is for Year 5 and Year 6 pupils who have parental and school permission to walk home independently. These pupils may bring a mobile phone solely for use on their journey to and from school. The phone must be switched off before entering the school site and handed to the office on arrival, where it will be stored securely during the school day. It will be returned to the pupil at the end of the school day.

Smartwatches are not permitted in school for any year group, including Year 5 and Year 6, as they have many of the same functions as mobile phones, including messaging, internet access and photography.

Thank you for helping us maintain a safe, focused and positive learning environment for all our pupils.

We are excited to be part of the government’s free breakfast club programme, which is funding universal breakfast clubs across the country.

As part of the offer, Yew Tree Community School will continue to offer 30 minutes of childcare alongside a free breakfast. The club is open to all pupils from Reception to Year 6.

Is the club free for my child to attend?

Yes – the club is free to attend for 30 mins from 8.15 a.m. until 8.45 a.m.

What can my child expect from the club?

Your child will be given breakfast and will be supervised whilst they eat during the breakfast club. There will be enrichment activities such as sports activities and arts and crafts.

What food will you serve to my child at the breakfast club?

Your child will be offered a nutritious breakfast during the breakfast club. This will include toast, cereals, fruit and milk. All food offered will be compliant with School Food Standards.

What time will the club start and finish?

The free breakfast club will begin at 8.15 a.m. and end at 8.45 a.m. Your child will then be taken to their classroom for the start of the school day.

If you would like your child to attend, and DO NOT already have a place, please fill in the form:

The Great British Summer Savings Scheme

The Great British Summer Savings Scheme is running from 25 June to 1 September 2026, helping families feel a bit less squeezed this summer.

The new scheme includes reduced VAT on days out, including tickets at attractions like soft play, adventure centres and theme parks, children's tickets for theatres and cinemas, and children's meals in restaurants. Children aged 5 to 15 in England will also be able to travel free on local bus services throughout August.

For further information about the scheme, visit Summer Savings.

This is in addition to further support available to families, with more information available at Cost of Living Help.

Water Safety Reminder

To keep yourself and your loved ones safe around water, please be aware of the following:

· Of all drownings in 2025, 57% took place in inland water – canals, rivers, lakes, ponds – the type of bodies of water we have lots of in the West Midlands.

· Even if the weather is warm, the water may be cold, causing your body to go into cold water shock.

· If you fall into water, Float to Live – put your head back, float on your back and keep yourself stable by using small movements of your hands.

· Once you are stable, you may call for help or swim to the bank if it is feasible.

· Do not go into the water to save people or pets. Call 999 and ask for the Fire Service.

For more information about staying safe around water, please visit the West Midlands Fire Service water safety page:
