Spring 2 (2025)

World Book Day!

On Thursday 6th March, Yew Tree celebrated World Book Day with activities across school that encouraged children to read, write and illustrate like authors. We wrote a whole school story, using a writing relay, read with other year groups and drew some awesome illustrations of monsters to match our stories!

Year 4 used digital technology to create and animate their own stories.

Year 3, 4 and 6 created their own monsters using Rob Biddulph as inspiration.

Year 5 created comic strips.

Year 4 Black Country Museum

Year 4 took a journey into the past when they visited the Black Country Living Museum. The trip linked to their learning about the changes in the region over time. One of the highlights was a journey on a narrow boat along the canal.

Nursery and Reception grow chicks!

This half-term, linking to their unit about animals and life-cycles, reception and nursery have been hatching and nurturing some chicks. Our feathery friends have been keeping the children busy taking care of them!

Year 2 Great Fire of London

Year 2 are looking at the Great Fire of London this half-term. As one of the most devastating events in mainland British history, children created houses with their parents so that we could see how quickly the fire spread and just how much of London was devastated by the fire.

The children also had a workshop to look at what London was like at the time, and to learn more about how the fire started.

Year 1 Black Country Museum

The children in Year 1 had an amazing day at the Black Country Museum where they stepped back in time into the Victorian era.  They learnt all about the lives of the Victorian people, how they travelled and looked at how they lived. This linked really well to their topics about toys and the Victorian era.

They even visited a Victorian school where some of the Yew Tree teachers got into trouble with the Headmistress!

Year 5 Brookvale

Year 5 were invited to Brookvale by Aston Villa as part of the foundation programme to take part in a skills workshop aimed at getting children more physically active and engaged with sport.

They had an amazing time. We definitely have some future stars in the making!
