Welcome to the SEND section

Our Vision

At Yew Tree Community School, we strive to create a happy and safe environment where all children can thrive. Our nurturing and inclusive approach supports the diverse needs of every student.

We continuously monitor pupil achievement and identify those with special educational needs, providing additional support to help them reach their full potential. Parents and pupils are involved and informed about key information, and we maintain an open-door policy. If you have concerns about your child, please contact our SENDCO, Mrs E Phillips.

To contact the SENDCO, please call the school office or email to arrange a phone call or in-person meeting.

Our vision is simple:

  • Every child is valued.

  • Every child belongs.

  • Every child can achieve.

  • Every child is supported to reach their full potential.

What do we offer?

The Four Areas of SEND

Our Graduated Approach

We believe that every child deserves the right support at the right time to help them achieve their full potential. Our graduated approach ensures that support is carefully planned, implemented and reviewed to meet each child's individual needs.

We use a graduated approach to ensure every child receives the right support at the right time. Through the Assess – Plan – Do – Review cycle, we identify needs, set personalised targets, implement appropriate support and regularly review progress. By working closely with families and professionals, we ensure that provision is tailored to help every child thrive.

Working in Partnership with Parents

We believe that parents are partners in their child's education. We have an open-door policy and value regular communication to ensure every child receives the best possible support.

  • Regular meetings with the Class Teacher and support staff.

  • Meetings with the SENDCo to discuss individual needs, progress and any concerns.

  • Parents' Evenings to review learning and celebrate achievements.

  • Class and Group Workshops to help parents support learning at home.

  • Signposting to Parent Support Groups and other community services.

  • Involvement in Individual Education Plans (IEPs).

  • Involvement in SEN Support Provision Plans (SSPPs).

  • Involvement in Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) and Annual Reviews.

  • Opportunities to attend Parent Multi-Agency Workshops with education, health and support professionals.

  • Regular opportunities to share your views and contribute to planning the next steps for your child.

Working with Outside Professionals

We work closely with a range of education, health and support professionals to ensure every child receives the right support at the right time. These specialists work alongside our staff, families and pupils to assess needs, provide advice, recommend strategies and, where appropriate, deliver targeted interventions.

By working in partnership, we can ensure that provision is personalised, effective and responsive, enabling every child to achieve their full potential.
